Marta Collings is an award winning watercolorist who specializes and excels in wine country landscapes. Having lived in Napa Valley since 1986, Marta has a true understanding and appreciation for this breathtaking valley and picturesque setting she calls home. Weather permitting, Marta paints on location outdoors, preferring "plein air" painting to studio painting. This allows her work to reflect all natural elements surrounding her at that very moment. Nature's nuances of colors from the soothing blue sky touched by whimsical clouds to the riches of the earth and its vine laden fruit are her inspiration and subject matter in most of her art. Marta's style of painting stems from her love of color, painting "wet on wet" allows her to layer colors creating a translucent like quality found in all of her paintings. Her exciting watercolors are given a richer depth by contrasting values of light against dark through glazing. A formal education in art from San Jose State University and Chico State University provided the foundation for Marta's painting. She has perfected her skills over the years through constant practice and hard work. When not creating stunning watercolors Marta spends time with her family and friends pursuing outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing and mountain biking. A passion for painting and her love of family and friends give Marta an appreciation for life and all its beauty. Her talented work has won her numerous awards in juried art shows and has rewarded her with one woman shows at various locations throughout Napa Valley and beyond.
