From childhood I have always been very interested in images and thoughts and where they originate. It would always (and still does) amaze me to find an image "popping up", seemingly out of nowhere, that would teach, entertain, mystify, or even enlighten me.
In my life the creative imagination functions as both a source of self knowledge and knowledge of the other, including other worlds In fact most of the time I really don't paint for anyone at all, not even my self! I found when I was younger I "needed" to paint in order to generate higher awareness and meanings, although I wasn't formally "aware" of these motives at the time that I began to do serious painting.
I remember thinking that all the adults knew there was something more hidden under the daily surfaces of life, but that they didn't want to look for it or spend time telling children about it, whatever it was.
For me a good painting has joy, beauty, and loads of meanings that keep on flowing out of the work. A good painting is never exhausted. Instead you want to keep going back and taking a look to see and feel and experience more each time!
