Philosophy: Drawing is that tool used to visually communicate the thoughts of the mind. Color adds that dimension of reality to materials represented. I have spent a lifetime interpreting thought and ideas to visually communicate them to technical and non-technical clients thru the act of drawing. Properly done an illustration through the sense of sight should also evoke from the memory other senses. When my illustrations can surface experiences in the viewer, then the illustration is successful.Having a love of both Nature and Machinery my artistic subject matter tends to draw from both the natural and built environments. Coming from an environment that evoked both the beauty of nature and machinery created from the human mind imitating nature, I have formed a love of both.Style: Pen and Ink, WatercolorTechnique: Self taught in watercolor techniques, I have merged them with my formal education from the technical drawing field.I work in sizes 24” x 32” and under, usually small format (11” x 17 normally) size illustrations. I use mostly either illustration board or 140 lb or greater watercolor acid-free paper. Background: My artistic pursuits include an AS Degree in Design Drafting from Napa College, an AA Degree in Fine Art (Sculpture) and an AA Degree in Earth Science from the College of Marin – Kentfield. My personal pursuits include furniture making, metal and woodworking, glass fusing, stained glass, Cast and Fabricated sculptures and painting. This has added to 28 years of work experience as an Industrial Designer in the Mechanical fields. Encompassed within my engineering design career has also included both technical and architectural illustrations and physical model making for training, maintenance manuals and marketing publications.
