My work is primarily multi-media paintings and printing. The process of painting and printing is always a revelation. As the painting develops or the print is pulled from the press I am inspired by the work, my original spark of an idea driven by its own energy to completion. Creating is my medium for exploring something I cannot begin to define in any other way.
In my work architectural methods and symbols are often used as an abstract language, a sub text. It becomes an organizer, providing a datum. Architecture in a broad definition is expressed in everything around us from roots and rocks, to atoms and DNA, to mud huts and mile high towers. With this language I can provide pattern to the un-patterned, a common denominator.
My use of text expresses and communicates on a level that is more direct than architecture. Whether it is used as a definitive element or abstract letters, text provides a overly recognizable ordering device which we can accept as having meaning in its immediate context or as part of something much larger.
