The Arts Council established the Arts in Education Program in 1987 to bring visual, performing, digital and literary arts to Napa Valley elementary and middle school children. In this program, the arts are taught both as a core subject, as well as incorporated into the classroom curriculum. Each instructor is a professional artist who has been selected through an application process.
The Council publishes a new Catalog of Programs each year listing the workshops, performances and special opportunities available. Each workshop and assembly includes the grade levels appropriate for the workshop. Keep in mind that many artists work with a wide range of grade levels, tailoring each class to meet the specific developmental needs of the students. Teachers may also work with the artists to incorporate the classroom curriculum into the workshop.
In 2001, The Arts Council of Napa Valley was recognized for it's Arts In Education programs and received an Exemplary Arts Program Award, along with such esteemed organizations including the San Francisco Fine Art Museum, Cal Performances and the California College of Arts & Crafts.
