Introduction
Based in the Napa Valley, Artist Tree seeks to create a greater creative energy within downtown Napa by providing exhibition and performance spaces, utilize vacant buildings and public spaces, and be supportive and work with surrounding businesses. The committee seeks to showcase talented artists working in diverse genres including visual arts, music, film, performance media, and allied arts and crafts.
Artist Tree "branched" out of Wandering Rose after two forums on creating a community arts space. Wandering Rose is an association for networking, support, and advocacy of local arts and artists focusing on experimental, pop and indie arts for (but not limited to) youth.
One of the goals of Arts Council Napa Valley's Cultural Plan, drafted entirely from community input, is to "Maximize and Mine Arts Resources". ACNV is grateful to Christy Bors who is volunteering her time to work on this very important strategic goal!
Get Involved
Development Branch: If you are involved in non-profit administration, community arts organization and operations, this is the branch best suited for you. We will be looking to you for guidance, local art contacts, venue and performance space information, and administrative support.
Publicity Branch: If you have a background in merchandising, visual editing, website and graphics design, marketing, and press, then the publicity branch is a great place to start. We need individuals with a strong visual background to help us promote our cause, raise awareness via web and local press portals, and create signage for downtown events.
Business Branch: If you are a business owner or are business savvy, we need you to help "rally the troops" of downtown Napa. We are looking for increased business support of downtown art activities and exhibitions.
Realtor Branch: If you are aware of subleases, vacancies, short-term lease properties and have an overall "can-do" operations attitude, ArtistTree needs you to help us uncover the spaces we are unaware of and unable to attain.
Artist Branch: As a singer, writer, poet, dancer, painter, sculptor, or welder (not to mention the unmentioned,) we need to to spread the word about ArtistTree to your colleagues. We are also looking for talented writers and artists to help promote our committee. We are currently seeking a blogger and bimonthly reporter to write about their personal experiences as a working artist and finding others to report on throughout the community.
Meet the Committee Coordinator
Christy Bors is the founder and committee coordinator of Artist Tree, a group which branched from Wandering Rose forums about enlivening the arts in downtown Napa. Her drive to "stir-up" creativity stems from her own personal love of the arts, as she is an abstract painter and a freelance arts writer for the Napa Valley Register. Starting in 2010, Christy is renewing a Venue Resource Directory launched in 2006 for visual and performing artists.
Christy holds a bachelor of arts in studio art and art criticism from University of California, Santa Cruz. She continued her art studies in Italy, England, and France, and is currently working out of her hometown of Napa.
