Our Artist Tree meetings for February and March will be virtual- No meeting site. Just book a date with your email account to learn about all things art in Napa. What does that mean? Emails will be sent out addressing major concerns, suggestions, and progress, with encouragement to create an email dialogue between members. We will have no in person meetings.

What can you do at home?

Encourage others (and if you haven't yet) to sign the E-Petition for a Community Arts Center), as well as continue with our letter writing campaign to the city for art spaces and venues. (Check out the attachment in email entitled "PETITION TEMPLATE").

Hands-on Artist Tree Opportunities

Currently, Arts Council Napa Valley is working on a Facilities Database that will document and describe all art venues in Napa County. For those interested in this hands-on project, I am looking for a Facilities Database Leader, who will coordinate photographers to document the venues as well as update the list itself. There is available office space at the Arts Council Office in Napa to work on the project. Please let me know if you're interested.

The North Bay Bohemian has approached us about writing a feature article about Artist Tree and its efforts to expand art sites in Napa (special thanks to Ann Trinca for giving us the spotlight!) I'd love for everyone interested in being a part of the interview to contact me ASAP.

The Napa Valley Register is also interested in doing a feature piece about our mission to build a Community Arts Center. Anyone interested in being a part of interviews should also contact me ASAP.

January 22, 2010

A big thank you to all of those in attendance of Thursday Jan. 21st meeting. Artist Tree members reached a consensus at our second discussion meeting, and designed a true Artist Tree credo:

We will use what resources we know, and we will inspire others to do the same.

I have often found myself discouraged in hearing of the regulations, ordinances, and legalities within Napa that I haven't a clue how to fix. What I've realized is there are hundreds of other locals like me. We want change, and we will do everything in our power to inspire it. That is our talent as local citizens here: We know what we want, we know what we need, and it is our duty to let the local government know.

While we are leaps away from making Napa an art epicenter, we are steps away from City Hall. As citizens of Napa, we are not required to possess the knowledge to draft building plans, or delegate business ownership- We are required to make our voices heard to those that can affect change, and our voices can and will make a difference if they are represented in enough numbers.

Sign E-Petition

Please Sign E-Petition here

This is why Artist Tree has created an e-petition for the development of a community arts center. Please visit the site by clicking here, and making your voice known to our local government.

E-Mail Letters by Feb 1, 2010

In addition to the e-petition, I encourage you to consider writing a personalized letter of petition for an arts center (or studio space, if that is what you prefer) addressed to Napa City. If you are interested in writing a letter, please e-mail it to me at ArtistTreeNapa [ at ] gmail.com. I am hoping to collect 25 letters by February 1, 2010, and present them to the speakers at the Downtown Specific Plan Meeting on February 2, 2010, as well as send a copy to City Officials.

I will continue this letter writing campaign each month, with a goal of collecting 500 letters by the end of 2010.

Lastly, I encourage you all to send heartfelt Letters To The Editor about change you wish to see within the arts. Online readership for The Napa Valley Register has doubled within the last year, and the editorial section is highly visible to all web visitors as well as locals. Click here to submit your letter to the editor (it's as easy as that click), and note your commentary is limited to 800 words.

I hope you take advantages of these opportunities, and join me in inspiring our community to change.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the Napa Downtown Specific Plan Meeting held at City Hall (6:30pm) on February 2nd. It is open to all interested public and is a GREAT way to make the arts community visible. Please come and bring a friend. If you'd like more information on the Downtown Specific Plan, please click here to read previous discussions (and past agendas) on their website. www.downtownnapaspecificplan.org

If you have additional creative ideas on how to get our community involved, please contact me. Any and all thoughts welcomed.

Blessings,
Christy Bors
