I paint the expression of a place, or the abstraction, the essence of a subject. I begin to paint, keeping the idea or the expression foremost while painting. I painted in an impressionist style for many years and I'm now creating more abstract work for the last few years. Explorations in a variety of art mediums keeps my art evolving, fresh and changing every few years.
I grew up in Palm Springs, part of an artistic family and within a community that deeply valued the arts. The subjects I paint are those most familiar and close to my heart: landscape, abstracts, cityscapes, floral and some figurative. I live with my husband who has been my supportive partner for 24 years in northern California.
In 2013 I received a grant, funded in part by the California Arts Council. With the grant I developed and wrote text, and photographed more than 100 photos for a book on painting abstracts. Titled "Nature in the Abstract", the book was published in 2014. In 2015 I was commissioned by the Yolo Arts Council to design a limited edition dinner plate, part of a series of art / food projects called "The ArtFul Plate" held in Yolo County. I'm represented in galleries in both northern and southern California, and I exhibit often in other venues.
My studio is open to the public regularly; please contact me for in-studio hours to view artwork and contemporary textiles in person. My artwork has been shown in over 50 solo, group and museum exhibits, exhibiting in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Wyoming.
