The City of Napa and Napa River Inn will host a kick-off and reception on July 20 to celebrate the new Napa Art Walk sculpture exhibition. The event will begin at 4:00 pm in front of Napa City Hall where the public can pick up a new program map guide and take a self-guided tour and end at Napa Riverbend Plaza (behind Napa River Inn) at 5:00 pm for a free reception. The public is invited to enjoy light refreshments from Silo’s and wine poured by St. Clair Brown Winery.

The 2017-2019 Napa Art Walk is the fifth since the program began in 2010. The new exhibition, entitled “Shifting Perspective”, features nine sculptures from three Western states (WA, OR and CA). Artists include: Gabe Babcock, Eileen Fitz-Faulkner, Todd Lawson, Helle Scharling-Todd, Colin Selig as well as local Napa artist, Mikey Kelly and three returning Napa Art Walk favorites, Patricia Vader, Mike Suri and LT Mustardseed.

The jury of three arts professionals who selected the work in this exhibition includes: Michele Manno, Vice Chair, Arts Council Napa Valley & Associate Dean, Napa Valley College; Ann Trinca, Gallery Director, Berkeley Art Center & Artist; Tom Walker, Artist.

All of the new sculptures have been installed except for Todd Lawson’s “The Dialogue”, which will be placed at a new location owned by the Napa Valley Wine Train later this summer. When installed, it will connect the Art Walk with Napa’s new Rail Arts District. The rest of the sculpture locations are along First and Main Streets, and the Riverfront promenade in downtown Napa. “Guermo En Inverno” by James Burnes won the 2015-2017 People’s Choice Award and will remain on view at Dwight Murray Plaza through August.

Napa Art Walk: Program Info

Napa Art Walk is rotating exhibition of original, high-quality sculpture showcased in public areas around Downtown Napa and the Oxbow District. Each two-year exhibition comes from a juried selection of submissions from artists working in the Napa region and the Western United States (CA, OR, WA, AZ, NV, ID, UT and CO).

Approved by Napa City Council in 2009, the program will launch its fifth exhibition in July 2017. It has garnered both regional and national attention as an innovative Napa Valley visitor experience that highlights the region’s cultural vibrancy. It has also been featured in several media outlets including the The Miami Herald, 7 x 7 Magazine, The Washington Post, and Sunset Magazine. Top Events USA credits Napa Art Walk for, “establishing Napa itself as a cultural destination.”
