Shining Summer Sunlight on Local Arts
Hey, what's that bright shiny thing, up in the sky? Hard to believe that school's out and summer is finally upon us. It's been a long rainy winter for everyone, so let's open the doors, let the sunshine dry out the dark corners, and enjoy the valley in all her splendor.
Two years in the making, Napa ARTwalk will finally be installed. Come to the unveiling of 10 new sculptures downtown in just a few weeks. The cement bases are curing and once they're set, we'll announce the launch date on our website. So stay tuned to take the very first tour, meet the artists and enjoy downtown in a whole new way.
This is a free, public event for the whole family! Click here to bookmark NapaArtWalk.org for event date announcement. Scroll below to get a sneak peak of the sculptures and artists.
We're pleased to announce the newly appointed Poet Laureate of Napa County, Michael Waterson, elected by the Napa County Board of Supervisors on May 28th. Waterson succeeds the position of Gary Silva, and will serve a two-year term through 2012. Learn more about Michael by scrolling below.

SPINNING COMPASS EZINE
Last Fall, Wandering Rose member, Hugo Corro launched the first Spinning Compass ezine along with his partner Sierra La Donna Minchaca. Wanting to have created an ezine before, he thought creating a publication as a part of Wandering Rose, would be a great branch of the organization as an opportunity for local talent to have an in-print platform to showcase their art, articles, poems and commentary pieces with the community. Now going on its 7th run, the ezine is a paper-folded, purely unique and alternative publication geared for (but not limited to) indie, pop and experimental art in visual and written forms. It's open for submissions by the public with a deadline of the last Friday of each month and published during the first week of each month (email submissions to hugo[at]wanderingrose.org). The public can subscribe to the ezine free-of-charge by emailing your snail-mail address to hugo[atwanderingrose.org). Spinning Compass ezine is sponsored by Paul Slack of Bloom Salon.

INDIYMENDENT CULTURE FAIRE FOLLOWUP
(From Napa Valley Register 5/17/10) For alternative artists, art can happen anywhere. A piece of garbage is transformed into a sculpture, a paper plate morphs into a canvas and common household paint is used to create a multi-part collaborative mural.
Even an empty warehouse that serves as a furniture storage facility during the week can turn into a working piece of art, as it did over the weekend during Wandering Rose's InDIYdependent Culture Faire.
On Saturday and Sunday Napa artists teamed up with artisans from Solano and Sonoma counties to shake up the valley's art scene with a festival dedicated to alternative art forms, music and culture.
