Enjoy a Stay-cation
in Napa Valley this Summer
This summer, instead of traveling, why not stay in beautiful Napa Valley? While people all over the world save
up to spend a few days here, we get to live here every day. But how often do you get to experience our valley as a
visitor might?
Why not try something you have been meaning to do but just never seem to find time for (ever taken a tour at di
Rosa?), or discovering a new hidden gem (gone on a midnight paddle down Napa River?), or re-visiting an old
favorite (seen a show at Lincoln Theater lately?)
Our new list of Honorees are here! We thank all those wonderful community members who have lent a hand in
supporting arts and culture in Napa Valley.

Council Welcomes Louisa
LOUISA HUFSTADER,
NAPA VALLEY ARTS MARKETING COPYWRITER
After beginning her arts career as a teenage jazz broadcaster on the Harvard University radio station, Louisa
Hufstader went on to become a well-known voice on several Boston-area radio stations in the 1980s and 1990s.
The Boston Globe has called her both "Boston's premier female jazz d.j." and "the ubiquitous Louisa Hufstader."
She also wrote about music recordings for the Globe and for Number magazine, and spent many years working as
a salesperson and staff producer for Rounder Records.
Since moving to California, Louisa has edited a book of plein air landscape paintings and environmental essays
("Native Grandeur: Preserving California's Vanishing Landscapes," 2000) and curated a traveling museum
exhibition, based on the book, which opened at the Napa Valley Museum in 2002. A regular contributor to several
newspapers and magazines in the North Bay, she often writes about the visual and performing arts.
In 2004, Louisa was an associate producer and music supervisor for the feature-length documentary film
"Debate Team," www.debateteamdocumentary.com, and she's also an associate producer for the upcoming World
War II documentary "The Signalman."

NAPA COUNTY READS ANNUAL LITERACY PROGRAM UNDERWAY
Napa County Reads is an annual program and fundraiser in support of literacy for elementary through high school
youth. Each year the Napa County school district chooses a book for youth to read, and to help raise funds for
special literacy programs, kids create works of art based after the book for an auction in the Fall of each year. For
the year 2010, the book chose is "SHIFTY" by Lynn E. Hazen. Stay tuned as the medium for the art project is to be
determined. Last year it was decorated bookends, and the year previous, mailboxes.
Check the Arts Council website for more information about the special silent auction event most likely to be at the
Napa Valley Opera House some time during the Fall. Click here to view Facebook Photo Album.

ART VENUE PROJECT STATUS
(Press Release, June 25, 2010) Imagine a place where Napans of all ages can create and share their artwork and
music. That's the vision that propels the Wandering Rose Venue Project, and with the help of community members
and support from Arts Council Napa Valley it could start coming true this year.
"It's really important to us that there be a place that's substance-free and still vibrant and exciting for the younger
generation to meet and work with older artists," said 24-year-old Napan Olivia Everett, a co-founder of the
all-volunteer Wandering Rose arts group, which is sponsored by Arts Council Napa Valley. She pictures a gathering
place that would be "half lounge, half studio, where people can just come to hang out and talk about ideas or sit
down and do some work and practice."
