Napa County Commission for Arts & Culture
Seeking Applicants

NAPA, California, May, 2010: The Napa County Commission for Arts & Culture is currently comprised of eleven (11) commissioners appointed by constituent jurisdictions. Two "At-Large" positions and the appointment from Yountville are open for application. The Napa County Commission for Arts and Culture (NCCAC) was formally established in 2007, by a coalition of the County of Napa, Cities of Napa, American Canyon, St. Helena, Calistoga and the Town of Yountville. NCCAC is a government appointed body representing Napa County and its municipalities and functions as the liaison between government, the arts community, business and philanthropic leaders, community developers, county and city planners, and the public at large.

NCCAC provides a voice for the arts community and is charged with the responsibility to:

  • Strengthen the role of the arts and culture throughout Napa County
  • Recognize and capitalize on the Arts as an important economic driver

As such NCCAC:

  • Listens to and reviews arts community concerns and issues
  • Report regularly to our appointing bodies to keep them abreast of the state of art in our Valley
  • Represent to our elected officials in the political forum the problems and goals of the Art Community
  • Make recommendations to appropriate government agency for resolution and/or salient contributions for planning and development regarding cultural planning, public policy, legislation and ordinances as they relate to the arts including, but not limited to:
    • Art in Public Places ordinances
    • Zoning and Noise ordinances
    • Arts sales in the Agricultural Preserve
    • General Plan updates
    • Selection/appointment of County Poet Laureate
  • Research, evaluate and make recommendations on legislation, programs, and events that capitalize on the economic value of arts and culture in our community
    • Ie: Monterey Jazz Festival, Sausalito Arts Faire, Laguna Beach Art-A-Fair, WaterFire-Providence, RI, Napa Valley Arts 2010 Celebration

Meetings

NCCAC meets the first Monday of each month at 4:00pm, primarily at the Napa County Transportation and Planning Agency (NCTPA) conference room, 707 Randolph Street, Napa, and periodically at locations throughout the County. Meeting agendas are posted one week prior to Commission meetings on the NCTPA website (www.nctpa.net ), and are open to the public.
