As a partner with the Redevelopment Agency for the inaugural year of Napa ARTwalk, we discovered that not only does Kristina have amazing creative talent, she is also an excellent project manager and communicator. She stepped into her new role rather seamlessly when Michelle Williams departed, and as a result we have had the pleasure of experiencing these other traits of Kristina. She is truly a gem."

NAPA, California (November 22, 2010) --- The arts community has another success to be grateful for this Thanksgiving season: Arts Council Napa Valley (ACNV) has just announced Kristina Young, a 11-year veteran of the arts and culture non-profit organization, will stand as their official Executive Director. Young, an arts administrator with a background in visual arts and creative education, has held various roles in the organizations' history. ACNV has had a courageous year of redevelopment, with programmatic, staff, and board shifts pointing the nonprofit to move into a new direction.
Beginning September 30, 2009, Young was appointed by the ACNV Board of Directors as the organization's interim leader. Her decade long post with Arts Council Napa Valley gave her ease in the transition from Programs Manager to acting Executive Director, with the arts community her biggest source of encouragement. "Kristina Young rejoices for every single artist among us when we succeed," said Ann Trinca, local arts advocate and marketing manager at di Rosa. "By bringing us together through her generosity of spirit, she has transformed the culture community in Napa."
The past year of Young's leadership has driven the organization into new territory. Programs such as Napa ARTwalk, the City of Napa's and ACNV's collaborative downtown sculpture tour, the approval of the Public Art Ordinance, as well as this year's inaugural Napa Valley ARTS 2010 festival, were developed and nurtured by the dedicated arts leader, who sought to link the arts with the Napa community through innovation in programming. "Kristina has demonstrated her ability to lead and develop partnerships with organizations throughout Napa Valley, furthering the success and development of cultural tourism," explains Harry Price, ACNV Board President and local real estate developer.
Much of Young's personal relatability to the community lies in her background as a visual artist as well as an arts administrator. Her experience in the industry has led her to understand both the needs of artists and the community that supports them. "I am honored to be working in this new role at ACNV," said Kristina. "This last year has been an amazing, challenging journey, and one I could have never predicted. I am grateful for all the personal support I have received and especially to the rest of the ACNV team who are the most dedicated group of people I have ever worked with. It is exciting to be able support the growing arts community here in Napa and I can't wait to see where we go!"
Young worked very closely with former Executive Director Michelle Williams up through her departure in 2009. Williams left ACNV last year to pursue a career opportunity at the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County. "Kristina was a critical partner to me during my years at Arts Council Napa Valley," boasts Williams. "Her warmth and integrity and her connection to the artists and arts community made a tremendous difference in all of our work. I know she will continue to bring her passion and her incredible commitment to ACNV and help it continue to thrive as a true community arts umbrella organization."
Young studied illustration from California College of the Arts (CCA) following her B.A. in painting and art history from the University of British Columbia, and Richmond College in London, UK.
