Blue Oak Elementary student exhibition, inspired by the Napa ARTwalk, opens at Napa City Hall

Our ARTwalk along the Napa River is the newest Arts Council Napa Valley collaborative City Hall Exhibition.

TUESDAY JANUARY 24, 2011, Napa, Calif --- Arts Council Napa Valley (ACNV) and the City of Napa welcome you to attend the opening reception for ACNV's newest City Hall Student Exhibition, "Our ARTwalk along the Napa River," with work presented from the second grade class of Blue Oak Elementary School. A public reception will be held on Tuesday, February 1st, 2011, at 6 p.m. at Napa City Hall, 955 School St. The regularly scheduled City Council meeting will directly follow the reception, which includes a special presentation of certificates to all showcased student artists by Mayor Jill Techel at 6:30 p.m. "Our ARTwalk Along the Napa River," will remain on view at Napa City Hall from February ---May, 2011.

The participating artists are students from Blue Oak's second grade class of Julie Inalsingh, teacher's assistant Betsy Stix and art instructor Leslie Gevurtz. To enhance their students' thematic study of the Napa River, Inalsingh and Gevurtz incorporated downtown Napa's ARTwalk Sculpture Tour into their creative programming. Following a tour of the ARTwalk given by ACNV Executive Director Kristina Young, Gevurtz designed an arts lesson plan that both celebrated the Napa River and showcased the public art sculptures currently on display in downtown Napa through September 2011.

Contributing youth artists include: Sam Boeschen, Forrest Bontrager, Genesis Celaya, Mary Deeik, Josie Erickson, Emilio Fantucci, Jack Giguiere, Jack Green, Isabella Griffin-Masri, Wyatt Humphries, Taj Inalsingh, Jaxon Levy, Olivia McDonald, Haley Miller, Trey Orantes, Nate Phillips, Mia Renteria, Carrig Scully, Grace Shirley and Philip Ward.

In 2008, ACNV and the City of Napa began exhibiting student art at Napa City Hall to honor local school children's creativity and showcase countywide arts education programs. The student exhibitions rotate every quarter and are supported by the Sato Foundation, Foster's Wine Estates America, The Jewish Community of Napa Valley and Wine Country Art and Frame. All schools within the Napa Valley Unified School District are eligible and invited to participate.

This reception is free and the public is welcome to honor the student artists, families and teachers by attending. Light refreshments are provided. If your school would like to participate in this program, please contact ACNV at 257-2117, or visit www.artscouncilnapavalley.org.
