MONDAY JUNE 27, 2011 NAPA, Calif.— The City Council of the City of Napa announced that "Fish On," by artist Terrence Martin, is the winner of the People's Choice Award for the 2010-11 Napa ARTwalk. One of the most familiar pieces in the exhibition, "Fish On" is a metal sculpture of a largemouth bass that has been on display at the corner of Main and Third streets since July 2010.
Martin received an official proclamation from the City Council on June 21, 2011. He works as an artist in West Sacramento and is also regularly featured as a metal craftsman on the Do It Yourself (DIY) Television Network’s shows "Bath Crashers" and "House Crashers". Martin's metal creations have also been exhibited at the Sacramento Zoo, Nugget Markets, Inc., the 2011 California State Fair, and in restaurants, malls and residences nationwide.
With Downtown Napa's growing retail, lodging, arts and entertainment and civic district adjacent to the Napa River, the Napa ARTwalk has significantly added to the cultural landscape of the city by showcasing innovative sculpture, heightening a renaissance of new development and creative activity in the area.
Since the ten ARTwalk sculptures were installed in July 2010, the public has been able to vote on their favorite, with ballots and voting boxes located throughout downtown Napa. After the ballots were tallied in May 2011, "Fish On" was announced the winner, garnering over 40% of the public vote.
Martin's winning sculpture, along with the nine additional sculptures currently featured in the inaugural 2010-11 ARTwalk Exhibition, "Celebrating the Napa River," will be on view until early September 2011. Fifteen new sculptures will be installed in October for the next Napa ARTwalk Exhibition, themed "Momentum: Art That Moves (Us)" and featuring kinetic sculpture.
