WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10, 2011, NAPA, Calif.— ART ON F1RST, a temporary, annual, site-specific art program, is seeking installation proposals for 2011-12. The program, initiated in 2010, currently features the works of twenty Bay Area artists in vacant First Street storefronts. With a notable edit to applicant eligibility, the 2011-12 ART ON F1RST Exhibition will only include work by artists who currently live or work in Napa Valley, or those who have lived or worked in Napa Valley for at least five years in the past. Accepted installations will be displayed in First Street windows beginning this autumn.
ART ON F1RST is funded and promoted by Napa's Tourism and Business Improvement District (TBID) in partnership with Arts Council Napa Valley (ACNV) and Gordon Huether Gallery. The Napa Tourism & Business Improvement District will contract with Augustine Ideas to market the program as part of Napa Downtown Association's "Do Napa" campaign.
The locations of the ART on F1RST installations will again be situated along First Street, between Main and Randolph.
"As a familiar community backdrop, First Street is a perfect place to showcase local artists," said Kristina Young, ACNV's Executive Director. "We look forward to seeing friendly faces for the 2011-12 exhibition."
Each artist will be paid a stipend of $300. The installations will feature lighting and an artist statement about the work. Standard art lighting will be provided. Electricity will be available. Any special lighting will need to be provided by the artist. All spaces will be lit until 2 a.m. each night for nighttime viewing.
The current ART ON F1RST exhibition features the work of twenty Bay Area artists, and will continue to be displayed through early fall. A complete list of installation locations and currently exhibiting artists is available for viewing on www.napaartonfirst.com
Interested applicants must apply by September 9, 2011. Applications should include a project proposal, images, and space requirements. This program has limited entry.
