FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Arts Council Napa Valley - Creative Leadership for a Vital Napa Valley

ART ON F1RST
Innovative Exhibition Program Gives
Vacant Storefronts A Second Glance

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 18, 2011, NAPA, Calif.— ART ON F1RST, a temporary, annual, site-specific art program, debuts its Second Annual Exhibition to the public on November 23, 2011. Running from 6 - 8:30 P.M., ART ON F1RST's exhibition launch will kick off at Veterans Park in Downtown Napa. Following the annual lighting of the Christmas tree by Mayor Techel at the Memorial Park Amphitheatre, guests will head on foot to the Gordon Huether Gallery on First Street, able to tour the installation windows following their official unveiling in the afternoon. Artists will be available in front of their installations from 6:30pm - 7:30pm.

The original program, initiated in 2010, featured the works of twenty Bay Area artists in vacant First Street storefronts. In its second year, the focus is on local artists: those who live or work in Napa Valley currently or for at least five years in the past. Sixteen local artists will be featured in the new exhibition, along with artwork from students at New Technology High School and The Oxbow School.

ART ON F1RST is funded and promoted by Napa's Tourism and Business Improvement District (TBID) in partnership with Arts Council Napa Valley (ACNV), Gordon Huether Gallery, and Napa Downtown Association. The locations of the ART on F1RST installations will again be situated along First Street, between Main and Randolph— an area with historically large amounts of vacated retail space.

"We are thrilled that the arts have a part of the revitalization of downtown Napa," stated Kristina Young, ACNV Executive Director, "and especially proud to showcase the work of our local artists in this year of the program."

ART ON F1RST's installations will give First Street a luminescent glow this holiday season, as all art on display will be lit through 2:00 A.M. for nighttime viewing.

The 2011-12 ART ON F1RST exhibition artists include: Sandra Booth, Joey Colombo, Carol Dacanay, Catherine George, Brandon Gomez, Shellene Hanan, Mikey Kelly, Lorenzo Mills, Sunshine Moeschler, Oscar Aguilar Olea, Marie Shelley, Margaret Starrett, Sam Tubiolo, New Technology High School, Gordon Huether, The Oxbow School, Diana Meehan, Katie Pratt, and Daniel Reilly.

A complete list of installation locations and information about the exhibiting artists will be available to view at www.napaartonfirst.com or www.artscouncilnapavalley.org following the November 23rd launch.
