Bookmarks inspired by the 2011 Napa County Reads Program will be showcased December - February 2012 for Arts Council Napa Valley's collaborative Napa City Hall Student Exhibition.
MONDAY NOVEMBER 28, 2011, Napa, Calif.— Arts Council Napa Valley (ACNV) and the City of Napa welcome you to attend the opening reception for ACNV's newest Napa City Hall Student Exhibition, featuring 13 winning bookmarks from the annual Napa County Reads Bookmark Competition. A public reception will be held on Tuesday, December 6th at 6 p.m. at Napa City Hall, 955 School St. The regularly scheduled City Council meeting will directly follow the reception, which includes a special presentation of certificates to all showcased student artists by Mayor Jill Techel at 6:30 p.m. The Napa County Reads Bookmark Competition Exhibition will remain on view at Napa City Hall from November 2011 – February 2012.
The bookmarks for the City Hall Exhibition were completed as part of Napa County Reads' annual countywide competition. Napa County Reads, an annual literacy program fundraiser co-partnered by Napa Valley Office of Education (NCOE), Napa City-County Library and ACNV celebrated another successful year with the 2011 selection of Bull Rider, a young adult novel by Suzanne Morgan Williams. Students used Bull Rider as their inspiration to create the bookmarks. Completed bookmarks were then juried and thirteen bookmarks received honorable mentions.
Contributing youth artists include: First Place Winner Tatyana Dunn, Second Place Winner Noelam Gutierrez, Third Place Winner Nicky Godoff, and Honorable Mentions: Raul Hernandez, Beau Harris, Matteo Rios, Adriana Marquez, Daniel O'Dell, Gustavo Vargas, Jacey Gordon, Dana Gutlewer, Jason Graquinta, Brianna Bowers, Cristian Maldonado, and Joseph Pelosi. The participating artists include students from Vintage High School, Harvest Middle School, and Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School.
In 2008, ACNV and the City of Napa began exhibiting student art at Napa City Hall to honor local school children's creativity and showcase countywide arts education programs. The student exhibitions rotate every quarter and are supported by the Sato Foundation, Treasury Wine Estates America, The Jewish Community of Napa Valley and Wine Country Art and Frame. All schools within the Napa Valley Unified School District are eligible and invited to participate.
This reception is free and the public is welcome to honor the student artists, families and teachers by attending. Light refreshments will be provided. If your school would like to participate in this program, please visit www.artscouncilnapavalley.org for more information or contact Christy Bors, Programs Assistant, at (707) 257-2117 ext. 1.
