The City of American Canyon is currently developing a Public Art Master Plan. Initially, it was intended to include a funding mechanism of charging new development a percentage of the value of their project. However, since the City was also increasing other building fees, the ad hoc committee established decided to skip the funding portion for now, and concentrate on developing the Master Plan. The Plan will include potential sites for new public art as well as guidelines and standards for soliciting, selecting and maintaining public art. Some potential sites could be along the Highway 29 Corridor, at public facilities, and along parks and trails, including the wetlands on the west side of town. On October 6, the Council will hear a report on the general outline of the Plan and get reactions from the Council and the public at large. From there, a public workshop could be scheduled for public input, and then a final draft will be prepared. We will notify our membership when the workshop is scheduled.
