Director of Chorus School Administration & Programs

Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with San Francisco Girls Chorus (SFGC) Music Director and Principal Conductor (MDPC) and senior staff, the Director of Chorus School Administration & Programs (DCSAP) is an important member of SFGC’s senior management team. The DCSAP will oversee day-to-day operations of the San Francisco Girls Chorus School and will provide visionary leadership in the development, implementation, and management of educational curriculum, partnerships, and outreach programs.

Responsibilities include:


  • Plan, manage, and carry out the enrollment, auditions, and registration processes for the Chorus School, residential camp, and tours; prepare the Chorus roster each semester and keep all faculty and staff informed of changes to enrollment
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, Music Director and Principal Conductor, and senior staff, manage the Chorus School budgeting process
  • Maintain CHARMS – SFGC’s School Customer Relationship Management database – ensuring that all chorus participants, their contact, email, and medical information are accurate and up-to-date
  • Work closely with Music Director, Director of Production and Artistic Administration (DPAA), and Chorus School faculty to ensure Chorus School calendar and attendance records are up-to-date at all times
  • In collaboration with the Communications Manager, create and send important communiques to choristers and families, including monthly e-newsletter, listening sessions details, and student and parent surveys
  • Work with Music Director and Level Directors each semester to compile and, when needed, determine repertoire and other programmatic information for all performance and educational activities, ensuring that pertinent information is available to all departments
  • Lead updates and revisions of Chorus School Handbook and related policies which are distributed at the start of each academic year to all families
  • Review SFGC School and office inventory needs, coordinating with vendors and re-ordering as necessary
  • Oversee the hiring of accompanists, student aides, and volunteers for the Chorus School and/or camp, as needed
  • Coordinate and schedule staff for chorister dismissal procedures following each rehearsal
  • Ensure that the Chorus School’s emergency procedures are up-to-date; communicate updates, schedule bi-annual safety drills, and maintain “emergency” contact binders for all choristers; create and maintain concert bags and tour bags
  • Field and forward performance booking inquiries and outreach program performances
  • Attend SFGC and Chorus School performances and assist with production, as needed
  • Oversee wardrobe department, including supervising wardrobe coordinator, scheduling and coordinating chorister fittings, communicating with parents and choristers about wardrobe requirements, and reviewing condition and inventory of all wardrobe pieces annually


  • In collaboration with the Executive Director and Music Director and Principal Conductor, develop long-term vision for the Chorus’ in-school and community educational activities
  • Oversee planning, implementation, and operations management for all SFGC outreach activities, including performances, workshops, and residencies
  • Work closely with SFGC’s Music Director and Principal Conductor and Director of Voice Studies and Faculty Advisor to monitor and assess efficacy of the Chorus School Curriculum
  • Oversee the Chorus School’s Composer-in-Residence program and participation in the San Francisco Opera’s educational program, Opera Aria
  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain relationships with community partners, leaders, and educational programs
  • Work closely with the Director of Development to identify funding opportunities for educational and outreach programs; provide material support for proposals/solicitations, as needed
  • Look for creative opportunities to broaden awareness for and increase interest in the SFGC School and its programs

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years administrative experience in an academic, educational or performing arts environment, preferably in the non-profit sector
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and process data quickly and accurately
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize tasks
  • A professional, collegial demeanor and the ability to interact with a variety of organizational stakeholders, including families, faculty, staff, guest artists, funders, and member of the Board of Directors
  • Fluency with computers, Microsoft Office, Google Apps for Education, and CRM databases
  • Superb interpersonal, communication, and written skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree in Education, Music Education, Arts Administration, Music Performance, or a related field
  • Knowledge of latest research and trends in the field of arts education
  • Knowledge of the Bay Area educational and arts community
  • Experience working with music educators and young musicians


The Director of Chorus School Administration & Programs is a full-time, exempt salaried position. In addition to regular business hours Monday through Friday, occasional weekend and evening hours throughout the year will be required for performances, meetings, and other events.
