The Art Programs Manager coordinates and manages Root Division’s exhibitions, artists, and public programming and all related outreach and support. Root Division staff and core of volunteers operate as a team, interacting with each other often, in order to provide a unified schedule of creative learning experiences for artists and the greater community. This position offers an exciting opportunity for someone motivated to work and learn in a unique and dynamic non-profit arts environment.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate, develop, and manage all of Root Division’s arts programming year round
Design and maintain 12-month calendar of exhibitions with financial, artistic, and strategic goals for the Second Saturday Series. Set and follow deadlines for all program operations
Lead and manage Curatorial Committee; Recruit artists/curators; Organize/ review proposals
Manage and provide support to participating artists and curators to ensure highest quality exhibitions; Meet and communicate with curators at all stages of planning; Administer and oversee all exhibitions related contracts/evaluations
Coordinate & support installation of exhibitions with Installations Manager; Staff artwork drop-off/ pick-up.
Oversee and attend all events including set-up, staffing, procurement of supplies (food/ bev), front door, bar, AV, donations, signage, live performers, etc.; Oversee the storage and inventory of materials for events, including beverages and supplies.
Oversee onsite gallery hours and sales; Manage offsite art rentals and sales including business/ opportunity development and related contacts
Recruit and manage additional support to assist in marketing, training, & programming as needed.
Recruit and train interns/volunteers; Supervise Exhibitions Fellow/ Interns and related projects
Recruit and contact donors/ sponsors for events (food/bev, services, rentals, performers). Develop & update database of all contacts/ information; Manage project budgets & track expenses
Update and monitor program assessment processes through Event Summaries; Compile/ provide data from past events.
Collaborate and coordinate with Education Programs Manager on programming that links educational programs with on-site exhibitions, including Youth Ed Gallery, New Growth, and Family Arts Workshops
OUTREACH, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, & MARKETING

Serve as an advocate of Root Division’s mission by acting as an ambassador to artists, curators, supporters, donors, and sponsors; Coordinate visits/ tours for constituents.
Form and maintain partnerships with peer organizations, artists, volunteers, interns, and related database of contacts
Assist in development of overall marketing strategy for exhibitions and events
Support outreach efforts & marketing of all programs; represent Root Division to the public & press
FUNDRAISING & ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT

Provide support with all fundraising efforts related to exhibition programs (i.e. grant writing/final reports, compiling data and visual materials, letters of support, soliciting donations from local businesses, etc)
Help coordinate major fundraising events (Taste/ Art Auction) through committee participation; Offer support for any additional events/ fundraising activities related to exhibitions programming
Research funding opportunities for artists and exhibitions; Support general fundraising efforts
Support coordination of thriving Studios Program via participation in Artist Selection Committee & All Artist Meetings
Work with staff and board in contributing input/ feedback for organizational strategic planning
Miscellaneous administrative, facilities, and program support including reception, gallery support, database updates, meeting prep/ set-up, facility upkeep, and errands.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

Bachelor’s degree in fine arts, arts administration, or art history (or equivalent)
Proven skills in program management/ coordination
2 years experience in facilitating exhibitions and/or events in a professional setting
Preferred

Masters degree in fine arts, arts administration, or art history (or equivalent)
Sensitivity to and understanding of the needs and interests of artists and a diverse audience
Strong writing ability and computer skills, including experience using Google Drive and Dropbox
Demonstrated marketing/ outreach experience and/or creative problem solving skills
Beneficial

Valid CA Driver’s License
Access to vehicle for performing program related errands
Basic skills for photo documentation
Grant writing / fundraising experience

Has an overall positive attitude and ability to work with various constituencies of all ages & from a wide variety of backgrounds, including artists, curators, administrators, and supporters of the organization
This is a FULL TIME exempt position, which includes M-FR from 11 am-7 pm onsite as well as occasional evenings and weekends, including 2nd Saturdays and fundraising/ special events. Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes base salary (range: $46K-$49K), paid time off, paid holidays & office closures (15+ days), health plan coverage/ related HSA contribution, and access to free art classes and professional development activities.
