Community Fund Grant Recipients
Arts Council Napa Valley awards $55,000 for local arts and culture programs
Thanks to support provided by the William & Flora Hewlett Foundation and North Bay Arts Fund, Arts Council Napa Valley (ACNV) announces their winter 2022 Community Fund grant recipients. Twelve local projects and programs will receive funds upward of $2,500 each toward their work in the community.
We are proud to say that we are funding every final phase applicant in this round, doubling the impact from what we’ve historically been able to support each cycle. We dedicate ourselves the continued growth of the Community Fund so we can support even more artist-led projects and programs throughout Napa Valley. The winter 2022 Community Fund grant awards reflect diverse artistic genres, disciplines and audiences – with the range of funded programs including youth arts programming, cultural musical performances, and more. These programs support ACNV’s vision of enriching our community through arts and culture by creating greater access, engagement, and culturally relevant opportunities for locals. Since the inception of the Community Fund, ACNV has provided more than $200,000 to artists and small non-profit organizations so that local work may grow and deepen the impact of arts and culture for all in the Napa County community.
“ACNV was able to more than double the amount of available funds for our Community Grant Program this year and with the increased funding we are excited to be able to support more diverse projects across the Valley,” said Chris DeNatale, ACNV Executive Director. “This winter’s grantees are impacting our community through some very exciting and thoughtful programs that reach members of the community of all ages. It’s an incredible opportunity to be able to support such significant projects and programs.”

NAPA READS: THE EPIC FAIL OF ARTURO ZAMORA
Napa County Office of Education
Each 4th-8th grade class of students at various school sites throughout Napa County will receive a copy of “The Epic Fail of Arturo Zamora” through the Napa Reads program. These students will identify central themes, including tradition, identity, community, family, and resilience. They will also collaborate to design a visual, written, or performance art project centering around these topics.
3RD ANNUAL VIVA MARIACHI! FESTIVAL
Napa Valley College
The 2023 Viva Mariachi! Festival is a 2-day program of mariachi performances for Napa youth, their families, educators, and the public to celebrate Mexican music and culture. Award-winning youth ensembles from Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Santa Rosa will demonstrate what’s possible when a community develops a Mariachi music program for its students. “A RIVER CALMS OUR WILD” COLLAB MOSAIC PROJECT AT WILLOW ELEMENTARY
Kristina Young
Napa artist Kristina Young will create “A River Calms Our Wild”, a permanent sensory path of mosaic stepping stones, for Willow Elementary in collaboration with 92 third-grade students and their teachers. The curriculum-inspired artwork will depict the Napa River and be installed as a welcoming entryway on campus.
HEALTH IS WEALTH
Oke Junior
Local music artist Oke Junior will collaborate with local wellness organizations around Napa, California to address mental health issues impacting our youth during the Health is Wealth Tour. He will engage with the students through conversation and performing arts on various local high school campuses throughout the tour.
CREATING IN PLACE
Children’s Museum of Napa Valley
The mission is for Napa county children to have the opportunity to become published artists, own their published work, and have it proudly showcased in this collection of creative work throughout Napa County. Creating in Place is expected to be celebrated in community exhibits, business events, and purchases at local bookstores. For more information, visit: www.CMONV.org
NAPA UTILITY BOX WRAPS
Clark Harding
Local musician Clark Harding plans to wrap three Utility Boxes in Napa with original art from different Napa County artists in various distinct styles.
THE ARTISTS TRELLIS
Nancy Willis
The Artist Trellis is a series of collaborative printmaking events intended to create a ripple effect of awareness for the arts. Artist Nancy Willis and four fellow artists will host a diverse list of industry and civic leaders for art-making studio sessions that will foster exchange and community awareness.
NAPA VALLEY MUSTARD CELEBRATION

For the first time in history, the entire Napa Valley from American Canyon to Calistoga joins forces to create a united event honoring the beauty, diversity, art, and commerce of Napa Valley. 17TH ANNUAL A CAPPELLA EXTRAVAGANZA
Napa High School Choral Boosters
The recently passed event comprised Napa, Vintage, and American Canyon high school vocal music groups. The show also featured four semi-professional and collegiate performing groups, The Stanford Fleet Street Singers, The California Golden Overtones, Take Flight, and Western Addition. The show concluded with the professional headliner M•pact.
NAPA VALLEY WILDLIFE MURAL: PHASE ONE
Afsoon Razavi
Local artist Afsoon Razavi plans to create an outdoor mural depicting wildlife native to our community in their natural habitat in the City of Napa. This phase of the process will be spent doing the research, development, and planning required to get the mural completed.
TACOS FOR THE ARTS
Mikey Kelly & Israel Valencia
These meetups bring together two of our favorite things– local eats and art! These two artists are using tacos as a means to bring together the creative community of Napa Valley to meet, hang out, talk, and connect. They’ll provide the tacos, and artists will provide the conversation.

Made possible through the support of The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation grant awarded to ACNV in 2022. The re-granting program has funds surpassing 100 thousand dollars for the first time surpassing the previous amount of 50 thousand. Grants are made to small nonprofits, individual artists, and groups of individuals to support creative works and programs that are publicly accessible within Napa County to grow and deepen the general community’s relationship with arts and culture through greater access, engagement, and culturally relevant opportunities.
