The arts are a true gift. They serve as a form of expression, a method of healing and are a symbol of a healthy and thriving community. As Napa County’s official designated arts organization, we lead, advocate, and connect Napa Valley’s art community. Ensuring that the arts are fostered in Napa is our passion.
Recently, Robin Hampton from our Arts Education Alliance shared a story with us that exemplifies the transformative capacity the arts possess.
Meet Michael, he is a middle schooler living in Napa. He is plagued with anxiety and uncertainty about his family life. There is abuse and neglect happening there. He’s struggling in school, hanging out with the wrong crowd and is adrift in his life. Through a local Napa arts program Michael is handed a trumpet. He learns to play and his talent is fostered. Through his involvement in the arts he finds his grades and his life improving, he feels hope and the trumpet becomes his salvation. He graduates high school and is accepted to a well-known music conservatory. Michael now teaches middle schoolers in need of music, just like he was.
It is stories like the one above that provide inspiration and validation that the arts matter unequivocally.
As Arts Council Napa Valley continues to work diligently on our strategic priorities to support our vision of Napa County as a thriving creative arts community, we ask those who believe in the power of our work to support us by considering a gift of any size.
Your gift will go to directly support the following initiatives:
- Support of local public schools to enhance arts education – ACNV Education Alliance recently announced a landmark partnership with Napa Valley Unified School District and Festival del Solé to create an Arts Master Plan to serve 18,000 students in the district.
- Enhancing Napa Valley Arts in April annual celebration of arts and wine, connecting wineries, businesses, artists and arts organizations.
- Working in partnership with Napa County Arts & Culture Advisory Committee to facilitate a grants program awarding over $200,000 to local arts nonprofits for creative services and opportunities that directly touch the lives of our community.
To continue the programs that are similar to the one that changed Michael’s life and that support the arts in Napa County, we need to raise $30,000 by June 30, 3016. By supporting Arts Council Napa Valley, you help elevate and support the local arts community. Thank you for believing in the transformative power of the arts.
